We’re hard at work preparing for our 30th Anniversary Celebration tomorrow! A special thank you to the volunteers from Accenture & 3Degrees Group, Inc. who came out to help up prep 🙌 Who knew paper tassels could be so time consuming to make? 😅 3Degrees, a San Francisco-based consultancy which helps organizations around the world achieve renewable energy and decarbonization goals, is one of Rising Sun’s 2024 Full Year sponsors! That means they’ve made a generous donation to multiple Rising Sun events and programs throughout the year as well as making a powerful investment in our work building career pathways for economic equity and climate resilience. They’ve been a great partner in our mission and we’re excited to show off their volunteer’s hard work at our event tomorrow! Still need tickets to our 30th Anniversary Celebration? You can find them at https://ow.ly/S94z50RHqq0 Tickets are on a sliding scale from $0 - $250 — pay what you want! The most important thing is that our community is there to party with us. 🥳 The Celebration will be at our Rising Sun building in West Oakland on May 16th, running from 4:30 - 7:30pm. We’ll have food, a DJ, auction and raffle prizes, and guest speaker Noemí Otilia Osuna Gallardo, Commissioner at the California Energy Commission there — don’t miss it!

  • So pleased to have UA342 Plumbers & Steamfitters as a Rising Sun Full Year Sponsor! As a Full Year Sponsor, they’ve made a generous donation to multiple Rising Sun events and programs throughout the year as well as making a powerful investment in our work building career pathways for economic equity and climate resilience. We’re so grateful for the strong support and partnership we’ve had with UA342 through the years! At our Women Building the Bay graduation last Friday, Jennifer Stetson, a Journeywoman at UA342, spoke to our graduates. “So many women end up getting pushed out of career paths and the trades due to lack of support. We can change that.” She offered her support as a fellow tradeswoman, telling our all-female cohort of graduates to call her anytime. “That's the power of sisterhood. We are each individually so strong. Let's use our strength to lift each other up." 👷🏻♀️👷🏽♀️👷🏿♀️👷🏼♀️

Congrats to our 15 Opportunity Build graduates – soon to be barrier-breaking construction tradeswomen! 🎉 "Joining Women Building the Bay wasn't just a decision, it was a leap of faith into a supportive environment where women uplifted each other,” shared Jey, one of two graduate speakers. “In class I found space where my voice mattered, where I could learn and grow without fear of judgment.. .  As I reflect on this experience, I realize that what I will take with me extends far beyond the classroom; it's the friendships made, the mentors found, and the confidence gained that will shape my path forward.” Thanks to graduate speakers Jey Hernandez and Octavia Cleveland for sharing your stories and words of inspiration with us, and special shout out to Dareon Chambers, who was awarded the Arvin Naeole Award for Strength, Endurance, Resilience, and Leadership 👏 👏     Thank you to our guest speakers: ⭐ Jennifer Stetson - Journeywoman at Local 342 Pipefitters  ⭐ Nikki Fortunato Bas - Oakland City Council President And a special shout out to our event sponsors: 3Degrees Group, Inc. Our very own Glendie Domingo, Director of Climate Careers Bay Area, spoke at the C2C Impact Engine Conference hosted by Northeastern University - Oakland 🎉 She was on the panel for "Climate + Jobs: Advancing Equitable Green Economies" and highlighted how Rising Sun approaches the intersection of environmental sustainability and workforce development through our Climate Careers program. Youth are able to take advantage of our summer earn-and-learn jobs and fall externship program to find good paying, high quality jobs in the green economy, all while getting support from staff in professional development, financial literacy, and climate justice topics. 🌎💼
