Please join us in congratulating: Brenda Macauley – March Volunteer of the Month Brenda, who has been with the airport for just seven months, is already making a positive impact when it comes to supporting our passengers. She recently let Elena, a distressed passenger who forgot her wallet, use her cell phone to call her daughter. In addition, Brenda went above and beyond to stay with Elena while she waited. The daughter was able to drop off her ID allowing Elena to make her flight on time. Way to go Brenda! Natasha Brinsko and Henry Mulak – April Volunteers of the Month For April, we are celebrating this dynamic duo of giving back. Volunteering since July 2023, Natasha and Henry work their shifts together and go the extra mile for our passengers. We were particularly impressed with their detective work last month. A driver’s license was turned in at the booth which is not uncommon. Since it was during the #NVIDIA GTC Conference, the pair thought to call NVIDIA to see if the driver’s license belonged to an employee. It did! Last month, Airports Council International - North America and AAAE hosted the Airport #CustomerExperience Symposium in #Denver, CO. The conference aimed to elevate customer service strategies and delve into the realm of five-star service. It was a pleasure for some of our employees to attend! Representing the SJC Marketing & Communications Division, Scott Wintner led a panel titled “Advancing Careers and Building a Dynamic #Airport CX Team.” Panelists explored the complex journey to senior CX leadership roles and discussed the challenges and rewards of this career path. They offered attendees insights, laughter and practical tips for creating an exceptional CX team. Sylvia Trejo and Simranjit Sandhar represented our #Operations Division at the conference. In the “Engage and Exchange: Networking - ACES Style” session, Simran shared his insights on employee and volunteer engagement. This interactive session encouraged participants to share two #engagement initiatives they've tried and one they wish to implement, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and networking opportunities. Congratulations to Matthew Mendonca - his colleagues voted him #Airport MVP! Matthew has been a member of the Facilities and Engineering Department since 2019, providing invaluable service to the day-to-day operations of the #maintenance team. He is routinely involved in providing landscaping services, preventative plumbing maintenance, trash clean up and hazmat spill response. He also responds to different emergency situations. It's #NationalVolunteerAppreciationWeek! We have over 100 volunteers at SJC. Some assist passengers at the information booths. Others comfort folks in the terminals with their lovable #therapyanimals. All of them bring smiles to the community and enrich the #passengerexperience at the #airport. A lot of beautiful moments and expressions of love happen at airports. This is one of them, for our veterans. Last month, a number of military vets flew into SJC to participate in Operation Surf in #SantaCruz. As described on their website, "Operation Surf's curriculum-based programs aim to inspire injured military and veterans to seek wellness in all aspects of their lives." To welcome them and show their support, dozens of local #veterans met the arriving passengers at SJC and provided a motorcade to the program. Our Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and #Airport Operations teams worked hard at the checkpoint and the curbs to make sure everything went smoothly. It means a lot to have played a small role in something amazing like this.
